History is kinder to the one who writes it...

I got to thinking about that phrase the other day, and the more I thought about it, the more it reminded me of parenting, co-parenting, and family court.

Because let's be honest: every one of us is the good guy when we tell the story.

When I tell a story, I know exactly why I did what I did. I know what I was thinking. I know what led up to the decision. I know the sacrifices, frustrations, fears, and disappointments that influenced me.

And if you tell your version of the same story, you know all of those things too.

The problem is that the other person doesn't.

Wrong is wrong, no matter who is doing it.

The Weight of Truth

There’s something powerful about old Stoic philosophy because it cuts through excuses with a dull blade and gets straight to the wound. No motivational fluff. No polished self-help slogans. Just uncomfortable truth.

“If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it.”— Marcus Aurelius

Simple words. Hard life.

The older I get, the more I realize most chaos in life starts when people ignore one of those two rules. They do what they know is wrong because it’s easier, more profitable, or emotionally satisfying in the moment. Or they say things that aren’t true because truth doesn’t serve their narrative.
