Your Kids Need an Example More Than They Need a Lecture
One of the hardest lessons in life is accepting how little we actually control.
We waste years getting angry about other people’s choices, opinions, attitudes, and stupidity.
Then one day hopefully we realize:
I’m giving away my peace to things I cannot change.
Marcus Aurelius figured this out almost 2,000 years ago. The emperor of Rome understood something most of us still fight with today:
Control yourself first.
That lesson matters even more as a parent.
Our children do not just listen to what we say.
They watch what we do.
They watch us fail.
They watch us get angry.
They watch how we treat people.
They watch whether we keep going.
Being a father is not about pretending you have everything figured out.
Hell, most of us are building the airplane while we are flying it.
Being a father is about showing your children what effort looks like.
What accountability looks like.
What getting back up looks like.
Teach them how to think.
Teach them how to handle life.
Teach them how to become someone they respect.
Because someday your kids will face battles you cannot fight for them.
The only question is:
Did you show them how?
Your legacy is not what you leave for your children.
Your legacy is what you leave inside them.
